Artists Statement:

Humor is foundational to  my art wok. Mad Magazine” artists Jack Davis and Mort Drucker and the monthly magazine, “Cartoons”, were and continue to be influences in my illustration work. I primarily focus on humorous artwork, using a very active imagination to create my illustrations
. My projects include Graphic Recording/sketchnoting (summarizing presentations and keynotes visually), corporate illustration projects, beer label art, and requested commissions. I also help artists and creatives better understand the business side of being an artist.

My corporate sales and marketing background allows me to listen, analyze, and synthesize key concepts digitally or via whiteboard illustrations. Understanding foundational business concepts allows me to effectively communicate, meet deadlines, and become a reliable and professional resource for my clients.

While I worked traditionally with ink and paper for years, I have adapted to the digital world. I create most of my illustrations on my iPad Pro. The benefit of this technology allows me to make client changes and be a more “mobile” artist. This matters to my clients because it allows me to help them meet their pressing deadlines.

As an artist, my mind is constantly thinking of new ideas and approaches. “Downloading” these ideas into a physical sketchbook or on my iPad allows me to build up a database of ideas that I can mine for future projects. My influences include two excellent art teachers in elementary school and high school, as well as my mother. She also enjoyed creating art and always encouraged me. As a very young artist, I poured over the work of the great “Mad Magazine” artists. My Graphic Recording skills evolved out of my corporate life, where I often used humor to convey visual ideas to our business teams.

My best moments as an artist are when I’m teaching at any level and the student or workshop attendee has a breakthrough moment. It makes me feel like I’m giving back to the universe that has allowed me to be an artist my whole life.
